Seneca Buffalo Casino has an Uphill Battle
A casino is set to go up in Buffalo; However, the exact location remains to
be seen. Being proposed by the Seneca Nation, the casino will likely go up
despite a concerted effort by gambling opponents who do not want a casino to go
up at all.
Although the anti-gambling organization, Citizens Against Casino Gambling,
has made it clear they do not tolerate gambling in any form whatsoever, whether
that be Indian casinos, riverboat casinos or state lotteries, they are claiming
that their defiance against the Seneca Nation is solely based on environmental
grounds.
The group has stated they will be filing a lawsuit with the help of attorney,
Richard Lippes - which is not long after their previous lawsuit against the
Seneca Nation resulted in a State Supreme Court ruling not permitting a casino
to go up near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
If the current attempt to bring environmental allegations into play is
permitted, it could take over a year to do an environmental study.
This, in turn, would prevent the Seneca Nation from meeting the time deadline
imposed by the state for a casino to be legally opened.
The current delay on Seneca tribal leaders is no doubt being influenced by
the pressure of the Citizens Against Casino Gambling, which will probably find
another reason to protest a casino location as soon as the Seneca Nation makes
their final decision.
