Ladbrokes Could Go Online For U.S. Bettors if Hilton
Sells
One of the U.K.'s leading online casino operations, Ladbrokes, may be
taking bets soon from U.S. online casino gamblers if the company is able
to flotate and start doing business international business.
However, in order for that to happen, the Hilton Hotels corporation must
sell their hotels division.
As peculiar as this sounds, the reason that Ladbrokes could not
branch online casino and sports betting operations in the U.S. was
because of one man: Steve Bollenbach. Since Bollenbach is the
Chief Executive Officer of Hilton, sits on the Board, and is an
American, he could face legal repercussions if Ladbrokes were to allow
American punters to use their online services.
The key for flotation now is for Hilton Hotels to sell its division
valued in the billions, which most members of the Board are giving a
50/50 chance of happening. If this goes through, Ladbrokes will be
in an excellent position to offset competition in the British gambling
market.
If not, Bollenbach may want to reconsider protecting his freedom,
which may not even be at stake considering that other large U.S. focused
online casino and gambling companies, like Party Gaming, have American
board members who have not been the target of U.S. prosecution.
