Station Casinos Could Build Up Rural Las Vegas

The landscape of Las Vegas could get another addition of towering glass and steel in the middle of the desert now that Station Casinos has purchased six parcels of land that contain almost fifty-five acres.  Situated in a relatively sparse and undeveloped location, the land was definitely bought to develop a large casino, according to a company spokesperson.  However, that building will not begin for at least a year as the company takes its time evaluating the site further and planning out a construction plan.

Posing even further delay is the chance that Senate Bill 208, which was designed to keep casinos out of Las Vegas neighborhoods and certain zoning jurisdictions, may not permit Stations Casinos to build a casino in the first place.  Although the chance is there, most who have analyzed the purchase say that Station would be out of their minds to purchase six parcels of land for $47 million - only to do so with a great chance of not being able to build a casino.

To keep that from happening, Station will need to come up with a development plan and present it to Nevada's Gaming Policy Committee that is made up of state senators and local citizens.  This is were Station could meet some defiance if the casino violates Senate Bill 208 guidelines, such as the minimum distance that all casinos must be from churches and schools.  It is also where Station Casinos can get the green light to implement their plan.  In addition to some zoning changes, only a few small approvals would be needed to build their casino at that stage in the proposition.
