Matchbook Brings Online Exchange to N. America
In what could be another blow
against North American bookies, and bookmakers around the world,
Matchbook.com has officially made its online betting exchange services
available to North Americans. Matchbook, which is an Irish betting
exchange similar to that of BetFair, is now poised to take a portion of
the annual $100 billion plus online gambling industry that is generated
by American bettors.
Operating much like a middle man
that gives hospice for gamblers, Matchbook allows anyone to post bets on
games, as well as challenge those same very bets. In essence,
Matchbook does not pay out any money of its own - They simply rake off
the top of what gamblers bring into the site. In this case,
Matchbook takes a 2% commission on every bet made.
For land-based bookies, this means
added competition that could essentially be the demise of the already
struggling industry. In Europe, the majority of bookmakers have
either had to go online or shut down their land-based shops. In
Europe, the online casino and sports betting industry is worth $30
billion per year, which although a very large figure, is not nearly the
size that is produced in the U.S.
Based in Antigua, Matchbook has
established itself as one of the internets premier online sportsbooks
and casinos. Now that the company has ties to the North American
market, online casino gamblers should expect to hear more from this
online betting exchange in the near future.
