Entertainment on the Horizon in English
Casinos
Get the fancy clothes out and your tickets in hand, because the U.K. will be
officially having entertainment venues at all of the casinos created out of the
Gambling Act set forth in April. There were prior claims the only venue
equipped and allowed to hold live performances would be the lone super casino,
which the Gambling Act is permitting to be the only casino of such a large size.
According to gambling lawyer, John Hagan, whose firm has consulted MGM
Mirage, the Gambling Act will permit a total of seventeen casinos to be built
over the next two years. And despite past laws which did not allow
previously existing casinos to present entertainment, the Gambling Act gives all
the other sixteen smaller casinos created in the next two years the permission
to add entertainment venues.
Furthermore, there is a statutory component of the Act requiring all casinos
to have designated areas in the casino for the sole purpose of providing
non-gambling activities, such as entertainment and relaxation. Surely to
curb on potential problem gambling, this mandatory gambling requirement is the
first ever in England. As for previously existing casinos, they too have
added entertainment venues, due to a common disregard to certain provisions of
the law banning entertainment set forth years ago.
