U.S. Gaming Survey Proves Casinos are in Good
Favor
In America, gambling has always been a controversial issue. It
has, in its evolution, become largely more acceptable, and as a result,
more accessible to those who would risk their money in an attempt to
leave home with even more.
In a 2005 study conducted by the American Gaming Association, called
the "State of the States", it was revealed that casinos are proving to
be a tremendous success with locations that operate legalized casinos
and gaming establishments. The positive response is not just
amongst the gamblers either. In actuality, it is coming from the
community and business leaders of each economic jurisdiction.
According to the survey, seventy-five percent of these business
leaders testified that bringing casinos into their communities was a
wise choice, and that by doing so, their surrounding business community
prospered.
To further expand on the findings of this survey, Peter Hart Research
Associates wrote a paper that analyzed the information in more depth, as
well as a number of specific cases in which the surrounding communities
benefited from the presence of a casino, or in some cases, several
casinos.
One major correspondence in the study was between those officials and
policy-makers that oppose casino gambling and those who said they now
fully support land-based betting. The amount that casinos should
be taxed showed a markedly different view, with those who supported
gambling largely saying they feel that casinos should not be taxed more
than other businesses. Opponents argued that the funds brought in
by casinos is only redistributed back into the economy, which otherwise,
would be spent by consumer in more ways that would help the economy even
more.
All in all, it is becoming apparent that gambling is being supported
by the mainstream, and that the powerful minority are starting to lose
their grip on old policies in the U.S.
